Common Belleville AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

Last year we published several of the most common air conditioning problems Belleville faces, but now we’re back with some frequent air conditioning problems that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not putting out cool air.

If your A/C system is running but not truly cooling, you could need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is important to make sure the air coming out of your A/C is truly cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is frequently an indicator of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to confirm if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the large one is “sweating” or covered in condensation, feel the pipe to see if it’s cold. If it feels cold, you are most likely good to go and don’t require extra refrigerant.

If you’re unsure or the pipe is not giving off condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call D & K Heating Service Experts and we’ll stop by and examine your refrigerant levels and learn why your A/C system is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should manage refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the dangers of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are multiple reasons your condenser fan might not be turning. One might be that it just burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity typically causes more condensation so another problem to look out for is that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is blocked. If you can verify these things, you may be able to find the problem; but, if not, give D & K Heating Service Experts a call and we can find out what is preventing your condenser fan from circulating and go over your options to get your air conditioner problem resolved.

Your AC system is not providing adequate air cooling.

It sounds crazy, but try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes it’s easy to miss the obvious. If that doesn’t get your system working right, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is blocked, it could cause significant cooling troubles. Another problem that could be causing your lack of cooling is an air conditioning system that is not sized correctly, and unfortunately this is an all-too-common issue when homes are constructed. D & K Heating Service Experts is happy to come out and do an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your system is causing your troubles.

AC shuts on and off constantly

If your AC is short cycling, or turning on or off constantly, it could mean one of multiple things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is blocked or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the condenser and/or evaporator is cleaned and all obstructions moved elsewhere, you may be back to a regular running air conditioner. Note that humidity also plays a role so if your home cools to the proper temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, it could result in an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work harder to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your problem, whatever common or uncommon A/C issue you run into, D & K Heating Service Experts is here for you around the clock. We are available anytime so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your family comfortable quickly.
