4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Springtime may technically be here but in Belleville it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been going for months striving to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some love. If you hear weird noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost surely need furnace repair work and you should call D & K Heating Service Experts immediately.

Before you assume that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from D & K Heating Service Experts.

  • Check that your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound crazy, but we have hectic days and life happens, so it can be easy to ignore the simple fixes. Neglecting to move over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Since we’re talking about switches, make sure your furnace switch is moved to the up, or “on” position. As before, an easy miss, especially since this switch isn’t one you tend to look at routinely. Most systems have built-in delays so be patient when you turn your furnace on and give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Replace your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters no less than every three months to help your heating system run more efficiently and put off any furnace repair work. An unclean air filter is one of the most typical reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Replace your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Make sure your circuit breaker (the one that controls your furnace) is in the “off” position and not the middle. If the breaker has been moved to the middle for some reason, move the breaker to “off” and then push it back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get expensive, so avoid a possible issue altogether with seasonal maintenance from D & K Heating Service Experts. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to provide all your heating needs.
