When the DFW area Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to support the Walk MS events in North Dallas and Fort Worth, they wanted to offer something to the event participants.
“The team thought an APCO Air Purifier was the ideal product to auction off since this spring the company has been promoting saving the air, and it helps destroy germs and contaminants from your home’s air that can worsen allergies and respiratory ailments,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck got the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when her bid came in highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first found out about the APCO many months before when she saw an article regarding the importance of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t pay much attention at the time because I didn’t comprehend its compatibility with nearly any HVAC system, and assumed it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When it came up at the Walk MS event, they were talking about the significance of good indoor air quality for people with MS and I instantly thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was 91 years old and had been living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for over two decades. He was required to be on oxygen 24/7/365 for the past four years.
“The allergens in his air irritated him even though I would install the higher-priced 3M Filtrate brand of filters. The filters just weren’t enough. He repeatedly caught pneumonia even though he had only left his home over the past four years for doctor appointments.”
The pneumonia meant Kim’s father spent a minimum of two months in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. Right before the Walk MS event in Dallas, Kim’s father had spent almost a month in the hospital and a couple days at the rehab facility rebounding from two strings of pneumonia. After being there to see her father endure so much, Kim resolved she was willing to “roll the dice” and bid on the APCO, which would both help her dad get access to “clean” air, and also benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was thrilled when she found out her bid had won and planned on getting the APCO installed in her father’s home before he was released from the rehab center. Regrettably, just three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was brought home to hospice care and passed away peacefully just a few days later. The APCO arrived the week after he passed.
Kim chose to have the APCO installed in her own home since her husband suffers from allergies. Shortly after it was put in, she was cooking onions and realized she couldn’t smell any stenches once she finished. She’s looking forward to seeing long-term effects of her new APCO.
We at D & K Heating Service Experts extend our condolences to Kim and her family.
