What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

D & K Heating Service Experts in Belleville always writes about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it truly mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be NATE-certified. The certification is discretionary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to D & K Heating Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since D & K Heating Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only certain areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
